Dressing the Bump Part I

Being pregnant is super weird.  And no, I don’t mean weird in the fact that you are growing a human inside of you (or in my case, two humans.)  It’s weird in how it makes you feel and how indecisive you become.  For example, I recently had a conversation with my husband about what we we were going to eat for dinner.  I started it off by saying I was going to cook spaghetti.  Then, it quickly changed to picking up Chinese food.  Then, I saw a commercial for Mexican food, so naturally wanted that.  Then, I really wasn’t feeling that great and felt super full (I guess too many girl scout cookies….) and ended up just saying I didn’t even want to eat anything and told him he could pick up what he wanted.  This example doesn’t just happen with food, but with EVERYTHING!

One of the hardest decisions for me to make is what I am going to wear to work.  Don’t get me wrong, I love shopping, but……with two littles on the way, we are trying to conserve money where we can because we are quickly realizing how expensive babies are (but oh so worth it 🙂 ) So, with that said, I’ve kept a pretty limited wardrobe so far this pregnancy.  And, what I have found to be the easiest at 5:00 am when I’m getting dressed for work is to just throw on a dress.  Before I was pregnant, I wasn’t a huge fan of wearing super tight clothes around my mid-section, but now, I feel way more comfortable in tighter fitting dresses.  Looser fitting dresses seem to make me look even way more HUGE than I already am at 23 weeks, but the excitement set in pretty early and I bought a few and wear them.  Lesson learned.

Here’s something else, too.  I’ve become extremely self conscious of my arms.  Because of that, if the dress I’m wearing is sleeveless, I always wear a cardigan or jacket with it.  This is going to be tough to keep doing because right now in Houston, the heat index is around 105 degrees.  Yes, in June – 105 degrees.  The first thing I do when I get to my car at the end of the day is rip that cardigan off!

I then throw on a pair of low block heels or flats with my dress, and I’m ready for the day – other than make-up, hair, jewelry, brushing teeth, making my daily spinach smoothie, taking my vitamins, and packing my gym bag for my lunch work out/slow walking on treadmill.

I’ll be discussing some of my other maternity style tips in upcoming posts, but I wanted to start it off with what is easiest for me right now – dresses.
I’ve linked some of my favorite dresses below – and for my coworkers, if you are reading this, you know I’m wearing the same dresses on repeat 🙂

Serpahine is another great place I’ve found some super cute dresses; however, keep in mind it ships from London via DHL and is not easy to return (if needed.)  I ordered an adorable dress too small and needed to return it, and luckily I have a very calm and patient husband who was willing to find a DHL drop off location for me.  Not all DHL facilities accept drop offs.

And another thing – I quickly learned that even though the sizing recommendations say to order the same size as pre-pregnancy, I actually needed to order a size up.  You may be different, but for me, and with this massive two baby bump, I feel like things started growing and expanding sooner than with a singleton pregnancy (although this is my first pregnancy so I really can’t compare for myself, but from what I’ve read…..)

Cheers – MP
