Plated | Oreo Cake Balls
Episode 5
These no bake Oreo balls are Ah-MAZE-ing! They are so simple to make and require literally 3 ingredients. I am a pretty good judge of desserts, especially cake balls/pops/etc., and find these quite delightful. And, what does Oreo like to do? Add in seasonal flavors – so you could modify these for any holiday by changing out what flavor Oreo you use. Also, I really wanted to dye my white chocolate pink or red (you know, for Valentine’s Day) but I ended up not having red food dye, so bummer on that. But, the sprinkles added just the right amount of flare needed for Valentine’s Day 🙂
Enjoy!
Ingredients
- 38 Oreo balls
- 8 oz cream cheese (softened to room temp)
- 1 cup white chocolate melting wafers
- 1 cup chocolate melting wafers
- For decorating: melted chocolate, Oreo chunks/crumbs, crushed peppermint, icing, chopped nuts, sprinkles, etc.
Preparation
- Place Oreo cookies in a food processor. Pulse until they are fine cookie crumbs.
2. Using a stand mixer or hand mixer, beat the cream cheese until it is smooth, about 1 minute. Add the Oreo cookie crumbs and mix until well combined.
3. Roll the Oreo mixture into small balls or use an ice cream scoop and place on a baking sheet or tray that has been lined with parchment paper or wax paper. Freeze the Oreo balls for 15 minutes.
4. Place the chocolate wafers (or candy coating) in a small microwave safe bowl. Place the white chocolate wafers (or candy coating) in a separate small microwave safe bowl. Melt according to instructions on packaging.
5. Remove the balls from the freezer and dip the balls into the melted chocolate. Make sure you cover the balls completely in chocolate. I like to use a fork to shake the excess chocolate off of the Oreo balls. Place the dipped balls back on the baking tray with parchment paper or wax paper. Decorate with a drizzle of chocolate, additional crushed Oreos, sprinkles, crushed peppermint or crushed nuts, if desired.
6. Place the baking sheet with the Oreo balls in the refrigerator and chill for at least an hour. Keep stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
7. The Oreo balls will keep in the fridge for up to 3 weeks. You can also freeze the balls for up to 2 months.
A few tips: make sure the cream cheese is room temp. If it is too hard, it will not mix well. Make sure to freeze the balls before dipping them in the chocolate. They start to fall apart and get all in the chocolate and get messy, which brings me to my next tip. If you are planning on dipping them in chocolate and using sprinkles, etc., it will be messy. But nothing that a good wipe down won’t fix. Also, don’t be too hard on yourself with the decorating. I brought these to work and was like, “No, S&S did not decorate these. Their 34 year old Mama did….so no judgement!” The taste will absolutely make up for anything you are lacking in the artistic department.
