A Dr. Seuss + Sprinkles + Pink & Blue Birthday Party for the Twins

“A person’s a person, no matter how small.” – Dr. Seuss

Leading up to the twins’ first birthday party, I felt a little lost on what direction I wanted to go for the theme of the party. It’s hard to plan a party for both boy and girl because there has to be some sort of balance. I didn’t want it too pink or princess-like, or too blue or dinosaur-like. Again, there had to be a balance of sorts.

So, when the theme of one fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish was suggested, I loved it. I originally thought I wanted to change the red fish part to pink fish, but decided to leave it as red. So, my first step was deciding on invitations. Off to the interwebs I go, googling, etsy-ing, pinteresting, etc. You would be surprised at how many invitations I found that were either baby shower or gender reveal for the one fish, two fish theme. Seriously. Luckily, the wizards behind the PartyPrintableFinds shop on etsy were able to customize the invitation to fit my needs. See below.

Once I received the pdf and jpeg copy in my inbox, I uploaded it to Wal-Greens and had them printed that day. I also had an 8 x 10 printed and framed it as a decoration for the party.

Next, I needed a location. There is a restaurant in my hometown called Pincher’s Boil’n Pot and I knew they had a outdoor space called, wait for it…….The Backyard πŸ™‚ A family member of mine had just recently had a wedding shower in The Backyard and after seeing the pics, I thought it would be the perfect spot. On the day of the party, it turned out to be one of the HOTTEST days of the year, so we ended up moving the party indoors to the front room that faces the lake, which actually worked out really well because you could see the ducks, geese, and fish swimming around and the older kids LOVED going outside and feeding them! It was pretty cool. But, back to the party, this location was PERFECT and I cannot say enough good things about the crew at Pincher’s – they were so helpful and the wait staff that handled our party was great!

Moving on to party supplies. Again, I wanted balance. I didn’t want over the top Dr. Seuss, but I did want hints of it here and there.

Cookies are made by Savanna at The Sweet Retreat. Not only do her cookies look amazing, they taste amazing as well!

So what about the sprinkles? Well, that actually came from the cake. I knew I did not want a Dr. Seuss cake, and after lots and lots and lots of pinteresting and perusing the bakery at H-E-B, I decided on a sprinkles cake. I did a 10″ round cake, vanilla, with buttercream filling and icing, and it was DELICIOUS! And…..only $26. The last cake I had made by a bakery was over $100! The twins’ smash cake also came from H-E-B and had the sprinkles theme as well. I did not get a picture of the cake with the ONE topper, but it was the perfect addition to the cake (see pic below from the day of their actual birthday. The same ONE was on their party cake.)

And the cake smash πŸ™‚ Side note – I purposely did NOT want a colorful cake. I’ve heard horror stories of babies being stained blue and red from the icing, so we kept it white with sprinkles. The buttercream icing did a number on Savannah’s hair, but a quick bath after the party cleaned it right up. Their cake smash bibs were given to us right before we did the cake smash, which is a good thing because I forgot what I wanted to change them into for the cake smash at home. Oh, and one more thing, make sure to take off shoes…….

Moving onto the table decorations. I was very very pleased with what I whipped up in about 5.2 seconds. I had all the decorations framed, pinned, taped, whatever it needed, so when we got to the restaurant, I could set it all out quickly.

The table cloth and tassels were from H-E-B and all of the picture frames are old and I just took other pictures out of them. All of the printing – pictures, book covers, and invitations were all done at Wal-Greens.

And the food table. All the appetizers you could eat – and they were delicious! The mini corn dogs were my favorite.

And the party favors were all from the Target $1 spot – or I think it’s called Bullseye’s Playground now – included bubbles, slime, Dr. Seuss stickers, one of those annoying hand clapper things (sorry other mamas,) and some little ring

In closing, I would like to thank Pincher’s for hosting the twins’ party and thank all who attended. The twins had a fantastic first birthday party and we are looking forward to many more!

Cheers – MP
