Favorite Holiday Look | Tartan

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know my obsession with all things tartan kicks in the day after Thanksgiving. Actually, to be completely honest, I kind of carry it with me all year long, but save it for the time period between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day (at the latest.)

When it came time to decide on Christmas card outfits, I just knew it had to involve tartan. For those of you wondering what the heck I am talking about, tartan is a pattern consisting of multiple colored criss-crossed horizontal and vertical bands. “Ok, so I thought that was called plaid,” you may be thinking. Well, plaid is referred to as a specific type of garment worn by the Scottish to protect them from cold, harsh winters. But here’s the kicker, the pattern is called tartan. Plaid refers to the name of the garment, not the name of the pattern. And nowadays, Americans use the word plaid, whilst the English use tartan to describe the pattern; however, Americans using tartan to describe the particular pattern is on a rise.

The skirt that I am wearing in these pictures is from Loft and is completely sold out, and the top is a Rachel Parcell piece from years ago. Neither are available online, but I have spent a good amount of time trying to find similar pieces, because this is such a classic Christmas look that would be perfect for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

The twins are in coordinating navy, red, and white outfits. Sullivan’s outfit is linked below, and I found some similar jumpers to Savannah’s. I picked her Edgehill Collection jumper up after Christmas last year for $15! That is a total STEAL for Edgehill (found at Dillard’s.)

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and CANNOT believe we are in the final countdown to Christmas. Don’t forget to browse back through all of the Christmas Gift Guides for gift ideas!

Cheers – MP
