|The Monday Post| #34 – The Wear Your True Colors Edit

“The best color in the whole world is the one that looks good on you.” – Coco Chanel

Ever wondered what “wear your true colors” really means? While we all tend to lean towards certain color palettes, exploring different colors worn to work can be a fun and beneficial activity. While doing research for this post, it really made me realize how intentional the colors we see in our every day lives are. When STOP signs were created, they didn’t just pick a random color. They concluded that because red is such an attention grabbing color, it would grab the driver’s attention and force them to look.

Below, I’ve listed out how wearing certain colors to work can affect your overall attitude and how it can benefit you. Give it a read, give it a try, and tell me how it made you feel!

RED

Red is a powerful color. It is the color of fire and blood, love and anger, and and strength and power. Stop signs, stop lights, and fire equipment are all red for a reason – it is highly visible and catches your attention. Needing a little boost of confidence for your next negotiation? Try wearing red.

ORANGE

Orange is a combination of red and yellow; therefor it shares many of the the attributes of these colors. It represents creativity, happiness, and playfulness. Wear orange when you are needing a creativity boost, but be careful, because a CareerBuilder survey depicted orange as the most unprofessional color to wear. You have to keep it classy, maybe opting for a darker shade of orange as opposed to fresh off the limb orange.

YELLOW

Yellow is the color of life and sunshine. It is associated with joy, happiness, creativity, and energy. It is an attention getter, but without being too aggressive, which is why taxi cabs and school buses are painted yellow. It’s considered the friendliest color, so wear it to appear more approachable, possibly at a new job or new group. Stay away from neon yellow and lean toward a darker, more turmeric/gold/mustard color.

GREEN

Green is considered the safest color of all. It symbolizes growth, harmony, and nature. Wear green when you want to bring peace to the office, when you are feeling flustered, or needing to confront a coworker without sounding too accusatory.

BLUE

Well, it’s official, blue is the most popular color in 10 different countries. And there’s a reason why. It’s the most calming color. It makes you appear trustworthy, which is why you should absolutely wear it for your next big presentation. People will feel calm and trust the information you are giving them 🙂 Also, it is suggested to wear green and blue to a job interview.

PURPLE

Purples is the color of royalty, sophistication, and charm. It is a combination of the powerful red and the calming blue. Wear red when you are trying to make a decision on something important. It is often looked at as a color of good judgement and mediation.

BLACK

Black is the absence of light and a bit of a mystery. It can be the color of mourning or sadness, as well as very sophisticated and chic. We tend to wear black when we want to hide something from the world – weight, feelings, insecurities, just to name a few.

In conclusion, I know I definitely will be trying out these tactics in the office. Cheers – MP
