|The Monday Post| #48 – The Fun at Home Edit

“Nature gives to every time and season some beauties of its own.” – Charles Dickens

It’s warming up, the sun is out, the flowers are blooming, allergies are driving us wild, and we’re all at home for an unknown amount of time. Now is the perfect time to spruce up the backyard, buy that cute umbrella or lounge chair you’ve been eyeing, and start thinking about all the fun activities you can do with your kids during quarantine. I’ve compiled this list of all the different ways you can have fun at home in the spring.

Bounce House with Blower

Plug it in, blow it up, let the kicks go wild. It gets out their energy and they have fun while doing it. You might notice a price difference when shopping for bounce houses because they are sold with our without the blower – that is key. You’ll need a blower to keep in inflated.

Play Kitchen

I was a friend’s house recently and Sullivan spent the entire time in the play kitchen. I might have a little chef one day. Now I’m realizing I need to get one of these 🙂 Educational, entertaining, and fun for the kids!

Lemonade Stand

This is too cute! You could set this up and have the members of the family purchase the lemonade. Then, make lemonade and share it with each other outside.

Farmer’s Market

The twins have fruits and veggies that Santa brought them for Christmas, but this takes it to a whole new level. There are so many educational things you can do with this – counting, colors, sorting, math, teaching manners such as “Thank you” and “You’re Welcome,” etc.

Kitchen Helper

These little stools help the littles stand at the kitchen counter with you to “help” you in the kitchen. Let them do things such as mixing, sorting, watch the timer, shake a salad dressing bottle, read the directions, or just play with the flour on the counter when making cookies.

Medical Play Sets

I think it is so important that we continue to let the medical community know how proud and supportive we are of them right now. Teaching your kids about doctors and nurses and playing doctor and nurse is so fun!

Garden

Teaching things like watering the plants, raking the flower beds, etc. is actually fun for the tots because they are becoming more and more independent every day.

Outside Water Activities

Water tables, sprinklers, wading pools – all things that tots will LOVE. My twins love the water table – especially with all the little buckets to scoop.

Teepee

My mom brought my brothers’ old teepee to my house a while back for the twins to play with. They love it. They sit inside of and “read” and play with their lovies. Lola occasionally joins them in there as well. I also put a basket with sensory shapes in it as well for them to play with.

Swings

Everyone loves swings – and since playgrounds are a “no-no” right now, occupy your kids time with their own swing!

Playsets

Kids want to climb and run and jump and slide and hide and crawl and getting something like this for them will 100% allow them to do that.

Lunch & Snacks Outside

And last, but not least, little tables like this encourage lunch and snacks outside. Listen to the birds, enjoy the sun and breeze, and just change it up from being indoors. I also find that my twins behave better when they sit at the little table than when they sit at a big table.

Well friends, that is all for now. As you can tell, I think getting outdoors is so important for the kids (and for your sanity!) There is so much to explore and see and do just in your backyard!

Cheers – MP
