|The Monday Post| #24 – The Nursery Reveal Edit

Read me a story, tuck me in tight, tell me you love me, and kiss me goodnight.

Well, I finally did it. I have wanted to do this since right when the twins were born, and I finally got around to doing it this weekend (10 months later.) I am so excited to share my nursery reveal with you!

Creating the perfect space for your new little bundle of joy can be at times very stressful. I wanted everything to be perfect. I wanted it to be a space where they felt loved and safe. I wanted the overall aesthetic of the room to be soft, gentle, and whimsical. Planning a nursery for girl/boy twins was tougher than I imagined. Because I’m somewhat of a girly girl, I stayed with the color scheme of pink for Savannah. I chose silver mist for Sullivan. Silver mist is a color Restoration Hardware created that kind of has the same effect as, “What color is this dress?” I was sitting at my desk with my coworker showing her the bedding I ordered, and she said, “Oh I love that blue color,” when in my mind, I was seeing more of a light green. Then, when my mom saw it, she said, “You ended up going with gray!” I was baffled, because again, I saw light green – kind of a mint color maybe? It’s very hard to describe. Whatever the color, I love how it ended up looking; however, shortly after ordering the bedding, Restoration Hardware discontinued ‘silver mist,’ so maybe people didn’t like it as much as I did 🙂 And this actually caused some issues because I didn’t order the coordinating blanket that goes with the bedding (you know, trying to spread out the purchasing….) Anyway, I figured it out and am just so excited to share these photos with you! I want to start out by showing you how the nursery was until I decided the cribs were taking up way too much space and moved it to how it is currently. Also, I just want to show these adorable pics of the babes when they were 2 weeks old.

Crib, Dresser, Mattress

The cribs and dresser are from Pottery Barn Kids. Click here for cribs and here for dresser. The dresser is on sale for $899 today, 6.24, and the cribs are on sale for $399.

The dresser comes in white, tuscan, and brushed charcoal which is a GORGEOUS gray color.

The cribs come in several colors as well, including white, gray, brushed gray (looks like brown to me,) and chocolate (dark brown.)

Cribs – Kendall Convertible Crib from PBKids

Dresser – Kendall Extra-Wide Dresser

I decided to go with the PBKids mattress to ensure they fit correctly. I have the Lullaby Crib Mattress. The cool thing about this mattress is one side is very firm for infants, and the other side is a little less firm for toddlers. Click here for the mattress.

Bedding

Choosing bedding for a baby is the hardest thing ever. I’m not even kidding. I spent hours upon hours agonizing over what bedding to get for them. I wanted it to be feminine and whimsical for Savannah, and sophisticated and gentleman-like for Sullivan. I didn’t want too much of any one thing – too many animals, sports, planes, trains, pink, dolls, etc. There needs to be a balanced approach to designing a girl/boy twin nursery, and I am satisfied with what I came up with.

Their bedding is from Restoration Hardware Kids. Before I go any further, Restoration Hardware is not linkable on LiketoKnow. It, so I will be dropping direct links to the RHK website. Also, as I mentioned earlier, the color I chose for Sullivan is no longer available. AND, the last thing about RHK, when you become a member, you receive 25% off every purchase. The membership fee is $100, so if you think you are going to save more by becoming a member, I would highly suggest doing it. You can cancel your membership when you are done with the process so you don’t forget about it and it automatically renews the next year (guilty!) Luckily, RH was so understanding and refunded my $100 – so great customer service, too 🙂

Glider, Curtains, Decor

The glider is another thing I just went round and round with. I think the reason why choosing baby stuff is so hard is because I had no experience with it whatsoever. No clue what was NEEDED versus what was WANTED versus LOOKS PRETTY BUT WILL NEVER USE…..type of stuff.

I settled on this glider from Buy Buy Baby and have been very pleased with it. I also have a rocking ottoman that goes with it.

Blackout curtains are a MUST. In fact, the babies’ curtains in their room are 100 times better than the ones in the master bedroom.

Click here for their curtains. These come in 13 different colors and are truly blackout. Also, and this is important, they come in 108″. It is hard to find reasonable priced curtains that are 108″. I have them in Silver Gray which is actually a little darker in real life than in the picture on the Joss and Main website. They are made out of velvet and not only block the light, but also help with noise prevention as well. They come in single panels so I have 4 of them – 2 for each window.

The decor is simple in this room. It is a small space with a lot crammed into it so I didn’t want it to feel cluttered or overwhelming. This wood sign might be one of my favorite things……EVER. And this is the prayer I say every night with the babies before placing them in their cribs. The simplicity of the birch plywood with the white background and perfect font is all it needs to be a stunning piece.

Click here for this beautifully designed bedtime prayer piece of artwork.

The mural is from PBKids as well; however, it is no longer available.

Most of the smaller decor pieces are from Home Goods or Marshall’s and are not linkable. When I was planning the nursery, I would seriously go by these two places at least two times a week. I would grab things that I liked, even without having a “plan” as to what I was going to do with them. But then again, that’s kind of my style – I like to gather all the stuff I like, spread it out all over the place, and then place the pieces exactly where I want them.

Blocks – come in pink, turquoise, natural wood, dark wood, navy/gray

Frames – These are Waterford frames found at Marshall’s. I’m not going to link them because they are really expensive unless you can find them on sale/discounted somewhere; however, here are a few simple silver frames. Here and here.

If I Were A…… Unicorn, Puppy, Bunny, Elephant – These are the sweetest little books and would be so cute to give at a baby shower….. AND they come with a matching stuffed animal (or you can buy separately.)

Cuddle and Kind Dolls – every hand knit doll feels 10 children throughout 66 countries worldwide. Not only do I love these dolls, but the babies do, too!

Swankie Blankie Receiving Blanket – soft, elegant, and perfect for special occasions. This is luxury for babies.

Book Wall – floating shelves are from Target and extremely easy to install.

Well, folks, that’s all for today. I hope you’ve enjoyed my nursery reveal as much as I enjoyed putting it together for you. It’s kind of fun putting this together a year after I first created it because I am being reminded of all of the emotions that were running through my head at that time – excitement and nervousness being the top two!

Have a great Monday and rest of the week!

Cheers – MP
